Payment of a living wage

The complainant claimed that workers have not received the wage of November and December 2016. Workers are anxious to receive their wage before Chinese New Year holiday starts on 20 January. According to the complainant the workers have communicated their concerns with the management team multiple times, but did not get a response when payments would be made, or why these payments were delayed.

Findings and conclusions

On 17 January 2017, FWF's complaints handler in China received a complaint from a factory worker, who claimed that the workers had not received wages for November and December 2016. FWF declared this complaint admissible and informed Haglofs, the member brand sourcing at this factory. Haglofs reached out to factory management, who stated that the wages had been paid on the same day they had received the complaint. This was supported by bank transfer documentation. The complainant confirmed receiving the wages and was satisfied with the outcome of the complaint.

Overview of the complaint investigation

2017-01-23 Investigation

FWF asked Haglofs to contact the factory and get a response to the complaint from
factory management. The supplier indicated that it had paid the workers on the same day that it had received the complaint. This was supported by documents showing the bank transfers.

2017-01-29 Verification

The complainant confirmed that the payment of the wages of November and December 2016 were paid on January 18, 2017.
