The complainant claimed that they were coached before the audit about overtime hours. The worker state that overtime (especially Sunday work) is mandatory and they cannot refuse overtime work without the risk of losing their jobs, There were three workers dismissed because of overtime refusal. The worker also claimed that the workers who are close to the line supervisors get more wage increase.

Overview of the complaint investigation

2016-08-02 Investigation

FWF informed Hessnatur, Mini Rodini and Nudie Jeans the 2 May 2016 about the complaint. The members contacted the supplier discussing the outcomes of the audit, the CAP and the complaints. Hessnatur phoned with Fair Wear about the case in May. In this phone call Hessnatur stated that the 3 members will coordinate a complaint follow up. The members replied to Fair Wear on 14 June 2016. The members will give follow up . The brand representative from Hessnatur visited the factory on 2 November 2016 to discuss the issues that are raised.

1. Overtime
The factory owner and management agreed that overtime is a problem especially in peak season. The brands are in touch with the factory and they are discussing potential solutions. They agreed that the factory will provide an overview about the current situation and a plan with measures to improve the situation by the end of November.

2. Discrimination in wage increase
The factory would like to have more concrete information from the workers to further analyze the situation. Workers are really afraid of dismissal so they have called anonymously so it isn’t possible to provide more concrete information.
In general discrimination in wage increases is a problem that the Turkish team encounters often because in many cases wage increases are not based on some specific criteria which can be defined numerically. When it is defined just by "performance" and it is the line supervisor who will define the performance, discrimination is almost inevitable.

2016-11-16 Remediation

The complaint is still under remediation, together with another complaint.

2017-12-04 Closed

A verification audit was done in december 2017. During that audit not all issues could be verified as solved. Two member brands reconsidered the relation, and ended the cooperation. Outstanding issues will be included in the follow up of the audit. The case will be closed.
