On 9 December, 2017, one of the supervisors of the sewing department informed that some workers in the QC department were assigned to work excessive overtime until 4:00 without being paid. According to one of the workers from the QC department, starting from November, 20 workers from QC department were demanded to work excessive overtime until 24:00/4:00/5:00 because there were a lot of repairs occurred for the new order. The daily quota is 90 pcs per hour.

Although there used to be two quality inspectors per table, the new production manager now assigns 1 inspector per table. The worker stated that this was the reason which resulted a lot of repairs. Therefore, the production manager and QC supervisor decided to ask the workers to work on repairs at night without pay. No transportation or meal was provided for the workers who worked overnight OT. Although they already announced that the workers would not be paid, they dare not deny because they were told that it was their responsibility to work on the repairs. The workers who tried to avoid the OT were scolded and pressured rudely in the meeting. Moreover, the overtime demand is always made on the last minute. So far, there has been one midnight OT until 24:00 and two overnight OT’s until 4:00/5:00 (on 2 December and 9 December). The complainant heard that some sewing operators from line 6 and 17 were once asked to work unpaid overnight (OT) but the worker could not provide detail about it. It was reported that there would be another one for QC department on 16 December as well.

When the complainant was asked if the management team knew, she divulged that the whole factory including the chairman and the compliance manager knew about this matter. Although the chairman did not agree to sign for such excessive overtime, he did not interfere with the supervisors' decision either. Since the HR staff are relatives of the production manager and the supervisor, the workers believe that it is useless complaining to them. FWF was provided with complete photo evidence of overnight OT via Viber.

Furthermore, the complainant indicated that the overtime work in the factory gradually became involuntary again as the workers were not allowed to go back after work until 16:30. Even when the supervisors allowed it, the production manager scold them for letting worker go. It was verbally announced that workers must not take leave on Mondays and Saturdays. Moreover, leaves and gate-pass are very hard to obtain recently. Verbal abuse continues the same as before that the workers feel almost repelled to it.
