The complainant has been working at the factory since May 2018 and he/she complained that there is verbal and physical abuse by the managing director forcing workers to do night shifts.
He/she added that even for minor issues, the managing director uses very harsh words and beat workers which is an intolerable behaviour.
On 3 April 2019, the FWF complaint handler in India received a call from a worker who had been working at the factory since May 2018 . He/she complained that there was verbal and physical abuse by the managing director forcing workers to do night shifts. On investigation, factory gave an explanation that the compliant must have been raised by ex-staff who left the company due to several allegations and this staff previously made some false complaints to other buyers as well. FWF tried to call the complainant to verify whether the factory's claim was true but the complainant could not be reached.
Since FWF could neither reach the complainant on any of the follow-up calls nor did the complainant call back for verification, this complaint is considered closed.
FWF shared the complaint with the brand and the brand in turn shared it with the factory.
The factory replied that the compliant was probably raised by a previous worker who had left the company due to several allegations. They also said that this worker had already raised false complaints with other buyers as well.
With regards to overtime, the factory defended itself by saying that they have limited orders so there is no need for over time and night shifts. They said that workers never worked night shifts in the recent years.
Factory claims that management never abuses any staff or workers either verbally or physically ever.
FWF tried to reach out the complainant ever since the factory has given the explanation but it wasn't answered. Many attempts were made to reach the number but in vain.
Since FWF could neither reach the complainant on any of the follow-up calls nor did the complainant call back, it is difficult to evaluate the complaint and bring it to a conclusion.
Since FWF, was unable to reach the complainant for verification, the complaint is considered closed.
