In Skopje, Macedonian factory managers, FWF member brands and Macedonian trade unions have discussed the implementation of living wages in garment factories in the East-European country.
In Macedonia, wages are a key area. At the round table in Skopje this month, all participants acknowledged the gap between minimum and living wages. FWF was very pleased to discuss this important issue at the round-table meeting with representatives of essential stakeholder groups. The round table is part of an ongoing Living Wage project funded by CNV Internationaal.
In most garment factories, wages are too low for workers to meet basic needs. The payment of a living wage is one of FWF’s core labour standards. Read more about it in the FWF living wage policy and Climbing the ladder to living wages.
