Fair Wear celebrates 25 years of impact!

During an evening filled with nostalgia and pride, Fair Wear celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this month!

Around 90 guests attended celebrations at our offices – including past and present staff members as well as representatives from our Board and Committee of Experts – all of whom have put considerable effort into changing the garment industry.

Guests were invited to share stories and commemorate milestones, including Board members who have been involved since the beginning, Fair Wear’s first Director, and our first non-European representative on our Committee of Experts, to name a few. Fair Wear’s CEO Alexander Kohnstamm reflects: “Witnessing the 25th-anniversary celebrations of Fair Wear, I am immensely proud of the remarkable journey we’ve undertaken and the unique results we have achieved. We look forward to continuing working with the tireless dedication and innovative contributions of our exceptional staff, esteemed board members, and our visionary committee of experts, who are collectively reshaping the garment industry for the betterment of workers worldwide.”

Since 1999, Fair Wear has built strong networks and advocated for shared supply chain responsibility alongside brands, factories, workers, trade unions, NGOs and other industry influencers. Bablur Rahman, Fair Wear’s Country Manager Bangladesh, contemplates: “Back in 2007, hardly anyone knew about Fair Wear -but now it has achieved a level where stakeholders of the RMG industry of Bangladesh not only know Fair Wear, but also trust and value it.” We are on a mission to push for a world where the global garment supply chain is a source of safe, dignified and decently paid employment, and where human rights are respected.

Thank you to all our guests for attending, which included Jef Wintermans, Jyrki Raina, Jos Huber, Sofie Schop, Ruth Vermeulen, Sophie Koers, Karen Bouwsma, Koen Oosterom, Femke Den Hartog and many, many more.

We’re grateful to all our colleagues and friends who’ve joined us on our journey to make clothing fair for everyone!

Though we’ve made considerable impact in the past 25 years, there is still much to do to push the industry to a tipping point. Join our movement to improve human rights across the global garment supply chain.
