Fair Wear in Bangladesh with Dutch ministers

FWF director Erica van Doorn is in Bangladesh where she accompanies the Dutch ministers Lilianne Ploumen and Melanie Schultz van Haegen.

Van Doorn is part of a multi-stakeholder delegation comprising representatives of Dutch water companies, textile companies, trade unions, NGOs and pension funds.

On Sunday the delegation and the ministers met with trade unions in Dhaka, trained by FWF on the principles of Building and Fire Safety. Textiles and water form the focus of the trip, which aims to strengthen bilateral trade and development ties.

Living wages

On Monday the delegation and the ministers visited two garment factories in Dhaka. Since the Rana Plaza clothing factory disaster two years ago, Minister Ploumen has been committed to improving working conditions in Bangladesh’s clothing factories.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has selected Fair Wear Foundation for a Strategic Partnership. The joint proposal of FWF, Mondiaal FNV and CNV Internationaal focuses on living wages, social dialogue and violence against women in garment factories.
