FWF has held a workshop at the Wereldsolidariteit Startdag in Ghent, partly organised by the Belgian department of the Clean Clothes Campaign. FWF’s Hendrine Stelwagen mainly discussed the FWF living wage policy.
One of the main topics of the day was the realisation of living wages. ‘Would it be possible to draw an accord for living wages, comparable to the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety?’, was one of the questions raised. Hendrine discussed it in her workshop. She explained FWF’s wage ladder tool and the way FWF cooperates with unions in production countries.
During the event, unionists, the Clean Clothes Campaign and clothing companies discussed living wages, campaigning and the role of unions. FWF joined a panel discussion about labour conditions in the garment industry, together with a Belgian television journalist, the CEO of FWF member brand Mayerline and a representative of the Belgian union LBC-NVK.
The Wereldsolidariteitdag turned out to be a a nice and useful cooperation with FWF’s Belgian stakeholders.
