Earlier this month, FWF’s United Nations-supported project with NGOs SAVE and CIVIDEP held a formal launch event in Tirupur, India featuring a keynote speech by Saraswathi Rengasamy, chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women.
The kickoff event received coverage in major regional Tamil- and English-language news outlets. The project is designed to develop anti-harassment committees in factories that supply FWF members, and will provide mechanisms for women workers to report violence or harassment at work. Training will also be provided for workers and managers to help reduce mistreatment of women workers.
The project is being funded by the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, and is being implemented in factories in India and Bangladesh.
